I have always wanted a rose plant for myself but somehow I never buy one as I do not know how to take care of them and the ones at the supermarket does not look healthy.
One day, my husband came home from work with a pot of miniature rose plant in his hand to surprise me. I was so happy to receive them and started googling around of how to care for it.
This is the plant condition. It has many flower buds but it does not look healthy. After a few days, all the buds fell down slowly. With a heavy heart, I pruned them away hoping that they will sprout new leaves and flowers.
After a month, new flowers starting to bloom. I transplanted them to a bigger container as below. Love them!
Notes for miniature rose plant care.
- Give your mini rose five or more hours of sun every day.
- How much water your rose bush will require depends on your soil and weather. A general rule of thumb is to provide at least an inch of water each week. During hot, dry spells you will need to water more frequently. Be sure to water deeply, so that the soil is wet at least 12 - 18 inches below the surface.
- Avoid getting the leaves wet during humid weather, to discourage fungal diseases.
- Raise the humidity around your mini rose. The average home is too dry for them, which can cause foliage to curl and buds to dry out and drop. It is also one of the causes for leaves turning yellow. Use a humidifier or put your plants on top of some pebbles in a shallow tray of water. (Don’t let the plants touch the water, or the roots may rot.) You can also mist around your plants a few times every day.
- Minis need good air circulation. If it’s too cold outside to open your windows every now and then, use a small fan to move the air around.
- Most roses are heat-tolerant, but minis do best in daytime temperatures in the low to mid-21°C, with a drop to the low to mid-15°C at night. They’ll stop blooming if the temperatures drop below 10°C for a while.
